  Clarence Kilburn memories of WWI:

I remember Archie Roosevelt,… He was not in that company; he was in another company, but when we went up front we took over from them. And Archie Roosevelt was left. They always leave one officer to liaison to show them where everything was. And when he reported, I was there when he reported to Major Wilson. And he said: ―Major sir, I tell the men where the water is and the wood and how to get the wood and the trail and so forth.‖ And Wilson looked up at him. Of course they all rode the Roosevelt‘s, you see. That was Teddy Roosevelt‘s son. And they were top-notch officers, both of them. Boy, they were good! Archie’s brother, Ted Roosevelt Jr., was a top-notch soldier. It was a funny thing, before the war was over, these old timers, these old regular army officers who were very sceptical about them at first, but when they got all through they swore by them.” page 27

 As a Congressman:

I” never mentioned the other candidate at all. I would just tell them That I had never been in politics and that I was new to the job and I would try to give good representation to this district. And I would talk about the Republicans. I don‘t think in the 25 years that I was there that I ever mentioned my opponent in anything.” page 75
